The kids of my one personal chef clients love an after school snack of a preservative-free creamy dip to serve with cut up vegetables. And the preservative filled store bought dips aren't an option. That's where my sour cream dill dip comes in. It's a hit with my client and her kids. A win-win!
There's one big difference between making homemade dill dip and picking up a store bought brand at the grocery store. Great flavor! This creamy dip is loaded with fresh flavor and takes only a few minutes to whip up.
This dill dip is an easy appetizer for parties (try it with my Crispy Oven Baked Chicken Wings and these Roll Tacos), a huge hit at game nights, and one of my family's all time favorites to have on hand for snacking.

Ingredients & substitutions
Grab a couple ingredients from the refrigerator along with a few pantry ingredients for my easy dill dip recipe. Scroll to the recipe card for full quantities of the ingredients.

- Sour cream: Plain Greek yogurt can be used as a substitute. I recommend the whole milk version for a rich flavor, but low fat or nonfat yogurt are also options.
- Mayonnaise: Regular mayonnaise is my preference for this flavorful dip. Olive oil mayonnaise, avocado mayonnaise or light mayo are alternatives. Use organic mayonnaise for a preservative free dill dip.
- Dried dill: I like to use dried herbs in dips as I always have them on hand. 2 tablespoons of finely chopped fresh dill can be used as a substitute.
- Garlic powder, onion powder, kosher salt, and fresh ground black pepper: ~ Use a pepper mill to grind the pepper. Fresh ground pepper from peppercorns results in the most flavorful spice.

Storage
Refrigerate: This dip is ideal to prepare as a make ahead snack. Store the prepared dip in an airtight container for up to 5 days in the refrigerator. The longer it sits in the fridge, the stronger the flavor will be.
Freezer: I don't recommend freezing homemade dill dip. The sour cream changes in texture when thawed. And the dip may will be watery and separate.

Amy's top tip
For the best flavor, let the dip sit in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving. The longer it's refrigerated, the more intense the flavor will be. Be sure to taste the dip before serving. Add additional salt and pepper as needed.
