Did you know I live a double life? I'm a personal chef by day and a food blogger by night. It's not as exciting as being a super hero. But, I am a whiz in the kitchen.

With so many tried and true recipes that I prepare for my client families, I'll be sharing the best of the best with you all. These Easy Crispy Baked Chicken Wings are a frequent request; especially this time of the year when football season is in full swing.

    why I love baked wings

While some of my clients like these fried chicken wings, this baked version is super popular with kids and adults alike. They also are a little healthier than their fried counterpart. The wings are crispy and crunchy every time and making them is a snap.

Toss the wings in a coating of pantry staple spices along with baking powder (the secret to getting the crispy skin!). Then bake them in the oven. You'll just flip them once so they cook evenly. My easy 3 ingredient blue cheese dip is so delicious and the recipe is included below.

ingredients for making mini poultry appetizers

    ingredients

    • cooking spray
    • chicken wings
    • baking powder
    • kosher salt and freshly ground pepper
    • onion powder
    • garlic powder
    • paprika
    • sour cream
    • mayonnaise
    • blue cheese

the secret to crispy baked chicken wings

BAKING POWDER! It may seem like a strange ingredient to add to chicken wings. But a chemical reaction occurs when baking powder is added along with salt to the spice mixture.

The baking powder dries out the skin on the chicken wings making it crispy and crunchy as it bakes. It's a super easy way to make delicious wings without frying them.

    suggestions and tips

    • Make clean up a breeze by lining the baking sheet with foil.
    • To ensure super crispy wings, place wings on a cooling rack in the baking sheet.
    • Don't make the mistake of using baking soda instead of baking powder. When the baking powder is mixed with salt, it dries out the chicken skin as it bakes making for crispy and crunchy wings.
    • Increasing the oven temperature for the last 15 to 20 minutes of baking gives the baked chicken wings a last blast of heat. They will be golden brown and delicious.
    • These baked chicken wings are scrumptious as is. They can also be tossed with your favorite hot sauce for a spicy twist.

how long does it take to fully cook chicken wings?

This wing recipe takes a little patience while they bake. Rushing the baking time will result in rubbery skinned chicken wings. The total baking time is about 1 hour and 10 to 20 minutes. Be sure to flip them half way through the baking time so they are crispy on all sides.

The size of the wings and oven temperatures can vary. Be sure to watch the wings the last 10 minutes of baking so they do not overcook.

This is my go-to recipe every time. We love them. I made the first time as per the recipe. Since then, I have decreased the onion and garlic powder to 1 teaspoon each.

You should fix the video captions to say baking powder instead of baking soda 🙁 We’ll see how it comes out

You mention baking soda a couple of times? But it’s baking power right?? Even put baking soda in bold print???
That could be a big mistake?
I’ll try it with Baking powder!

Thanks for catching my typo Belinda. Baking powder is the correct ingredient. I've edited the blog post and now it shows the correct ingredient.
