With only 4 ingredients this ultra rich no churn ice cream is a breeze to make. Ditch the ice cream maker to make this frozen treat.

pan with scoop frozen treat

Even though I have fond memories of my ice cream making days of so long ago, I’d like to have a creamy frozen treat with much less work and much less time. No Churn Ice Cream is a miracle of a recipe that has only 4 ingredients and does not require any sort of ice cream maker.

the ingredients for no churn ice cream

  • sweetened condensed milk
  • vanilla extract
  • kosher salt
  • heavy cream
  • your favorite ice cream mix in ~ cookies, brownie bits, sprinkles, chocolate chips

Making ice cream way back when I was a kid was an afternoon long process. First fill a wooden bucket ice cream maker with ice and rock salt. Then fill the inner tub with a simmered and cooled concoction of cream, whole milk, and sugar that would eventually would become ice cream. I remember waiting and waiting as the ice cream maker droned on at what seemed like a snail’s pace. Time languished on as the churn continued to swirl until the ice cream reached a scoopable consistency.

No Churn Ice Cream is a breeze to make. Whip up a batch in about 10 minutes. Then the freezer does the rest of the work for you.

chef notes for making no churn ice cream from scratch

  • Sweetened condensed milk and heavy cream are the base of the ice cream. Whip the heavy cream until it has peaks. Be sure not to over beat the cream or you will end up with butter. Mix the sweetened condensed milk with vanilla extract and a pinch of salt to heighten the flavor.
  • Fold the whipped cream into the milk mixture along with your favorite ingredients to flavor the ice cream.
  • Spoon the ice cream mixture into a metal loaf pan and freeze for at least 2 hours.
  • The ice cream will be ready to scoop into bowls, on top of a delicious cake or sandwiched between chocolate chip cookies or sugar cookies.

try these ice cream flavor combinations

  • Crushed chocolate sandwich cookies
  • Peanut butter and chocolate chips
  • Blueberries
  • Chopped peaches and bananas
  • Fudge sauce, mini marshmallows and chopped salted peanuts
  • Toffee candy pieces
  • Mint or peppermint extract – add 1 teaspoon along with the other ingredients

The next time you have a hankering for delicious, homemade and super rich ice cream, whip up a batch of No Churn Ice Cream.
