why you'll love this recipe

Packed with flavor is an understatement for these mini Greek turkey burgers. Juicy, flavorful, and loaded with herbs and spices, these burgers are the perfect combination of traditional Greek flavors and classic American comfort food.

The addition of creamy, tangy cucumber tzatziki sauce takes them to the next level, adding a refreshing burst of flavor to every bite.

Don't want to fire up my outdoor grill? Cook these slider size burgers indoors on a grill pan, cast iron skillet or sauté pan.

ground turkey, chopped onion, cucumber, tomatoes, feta cheese, pita bread.

ingredients

  • 1 slice of bread
  • milk
  • ground turkey
  • feta cheese
  • onion
  • dried oregano
  • dried thyme
  • fresh parsley
  • kosher salt
  • pepper
  • tzatziki sauce - one of my go~to sauce and dip recipes
  • mini pita bread ~ about 4inches
  • tomato slices
  • onion slices
  • cucumber slices
  • bibb lettuce

recipe instructions

This homemade Mediterranean inspired turkey burger recipe has only a few steps. I love that they're so easy to make. They take no time at all to whip up on the busiest of days.

adding chopped onions to ground turkey and feta.
ground turkey, parsley, feta, and chopped onions in a bowl.

Mash a slice of bread with milk. Combine with ground turkey, feta cheese (this adds rich and tangy flavor), red onion, some Greek spices and herbs including oregano, thyme, parsley, salt and pepper. Mix gently.

Form into mini burgers. Grill about three to four minutes per side. Cover to keep warm.

Now comes the good part. Tuck a burger into a mini pita bread. Add some slivered red onion, cucumber and tomato slices, and delicate bibb lettuce. Dollop on the cool and vibrant tzatziki and enjoy!

Hint: Gently combine the ingredients. And don't overwork the burgers when forming them. Both of these missteps make for tough turkey burgers.

expert tips

  • You can fire up your outdoor grill or heat up a cast iron skillet, grill pan or large sauté pan to cook the slider sized turkey burgers.
  • For burgers, bread mashed with milk is my go to binder. Not only does it hold the burgers together, the mixture keeps them juicy and tender.
  • Skip the already crumbled feta. It's less flavorful due to added preservatives and anticaking ingredients. Buy a block and break it into small pieces. This adds the most delish cheesy feta flavor.
  • Make these mini Greek inspired turkey burgers in advance. Prepare and cook the burgers. Cool and store in the refrigerator. Mix up the tzatziki and slice the vegetables and store them in the refrigerator. When hunger hits, heat mini burgers in the microwave on 60 percent power for about 45 to 60 seconds. Serve in pita pockets along with the vegetables and tzatziki.
