Ingredients
- 4 pounds apples (SweeTango, peeled, cored and cut in large chunks)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/8 teaspoon kosher salt
Instructions
- Place all the ingredients in a large pot over medium high heat.
- Bring to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot and simmer for about 20 minutes.
- After 20 minutes, check the applesauce. There should be some soft chunks of apples and also smooth applesauce. Stir.
- Remove from the heat and cool completely.
- Store in in a 1 quart glass jar using a wide mouth funnel.
- Refrigerate up to 10 days.
Notes
To store the applesauce in the refrigerator, put it in a 1 quart glass jar. A wide mouth funnel works great for keeping the mess to a minimum. Store fresh homemade applesauce in the refrigerator for up to 10 days.
Applesauce can also be frozen. Put the applesauce in large resealable freezer bags. Lay flat in the freezer and freeze until solid. The applesauce will keep for up to 1 year.
